| Abstract | This work analyzed the residential area of the city São José dos Campos using a thematic map containing the following intra-urban classes: vegetation, types of roofs (metal, concrete, asbestos, ceramic tiles, etc.), swimming pools, shadow, asphalt, bare soil. The thematic map was obtained by a multi scale segmentation and object-oriented classification of a QuickBird image with 0.61 m spatial resolution using software e-Cognition 4.0. Samples of residential blocks were obtained and the attributes of the land cover classes were analyzed to characterize the final classes of interest. A threshold of each intra-urban class in the sample was used to create the description of the blocks occupied by low, medium and high income population. The results were statistically evaluated through the error matrix and the calculation of Kappa coefficient using as reference a map thematic obtained through visual interpretation and field research. It was observed that there is high correlation between the intra-urban class configuration in the samples blocs and the different patterns of the residential built-up areas. This is the motivation for further studies. | |||
